I just picked up this 034 super recently and when I took it apart to look through it, I found a bunch of metal pieces behind the clutch but I can’t quite figure out where they’re coming from. The clutch also appeared to have gotten hot. Any help would be great.

Most likely the drum bearing died. They later upgraded it to a larger diameter bearing. Looks like you need a new oil line while youre in there. One of the worst design features stihl has ever thought up, the 1125 oiler system.

Here are the metal pieces

The clutch came off no problem. There was no washer behind the clutch just the white plastic piece that set in.

I just picked this saw up last week. It appeared clean on the outside, started right up with no issues. I also talked to a saw guy local that knew of the saw and he also said it was a clean saw. I cut into a piece of firewood noticed a spark come out the bottom and that it was smoking out the bottom. I opened everything up and the pictures is what I found.

Because this has some of the chainbrake parts (the levers) but is missing the brakeband and spring, I'm guessing a bits are from a shattered broken or chopped up brake spring.
Wire size and coil diameter is different than the clutch springs. Looks like someone 'repaired' it in the past and left debris behind (the dirty case you got kinda hints at the quality of the repairer's workmanship).

The blueing on the clutch shoes around the spring mount holes is from heat treating.

Looks like the clutch spring is worn.

Are the metal fragments magnetic?

Can we see the backside of the clutch?

Not every 1125 had the oil pump protector washer behind it. Some early ones didn’t, although I can’t tell you which ones. Same with the 024/026 series. The back of the clutch is different, and adding the washer will cause the saw to not stop spinning the chain at idle, so then the brake is applied and it wears the crap out of the clutch.

Just food for thought. May not apply to you. I’ve mismatched them before.

That worm gear looks AM to me. Proof that someone besides Still has been there.
