Hey guys was cleaning the 034 and noticed some stuff that I dont know if its really important or to let it go. On the front of the muffler the screen inside the muffler is gone and when I took the whole housing off to clean Ive seen threads that say pull your starter rope slowly and your cylinder will go up and down so I did this shiny as hell inside but at the top of the head looks like 2 rings should be there or is this the way the head was cut bought it second hand guy said he and family were moving to Florida and wouldnt need a saw for firewood couldnt pass it up.

Sounds normal without pictures. Piston should be smooth, or even better with horizontal machine marks on it, two rings on near top.

Post pictures.

K ill get pics but I know theres not 2 rings in those slots what do the rings do any how Im not mechanically inclined on these things .

Does the saw run? If so it has at least one ring. The rings form the seal between the piston and cylinder. Without them there would be basically no compression.

K looked again this mornin got 1 ring in it this saw must have had some work done on it before and I didnt ask the person that question so its on me it starts and runs Ill run it till it dies.

So maybe an aftermarket piston, maybe cylinder too?

Now just 1 ring, or just one ring installed and piston has two grooves?

Pictures?

Remove the muffler completely, both parts. And take a picture of the exhaust port with the piston/rings in view. Seems unlikely that one/both rings won’t be there, unless it was put back together without them, slim chance of that. Occasionally one will break but never seen one shatter and disappear from the groove. You didn’t say if it ran, like others said it would not run without rings and feel like the spark plug is missing. Get a picture
