I have a Stihl 036 pro saw that is about 7 years old. I borrowed (I know - don't say remind me) it to my neighbor, and it is now dead. It has scoring in the cylinder, and the piston is toast. I brought it into the local dealer, but they want 280 for a cylinder/piston kit, and 70 for labor ($350 total) to fix it. Looking on eBay, I see the cylinder/piston kits for 75-125 bucks. I'm pretty mechanically inclined (rebuilt motors, like to mod my equipment, etc).
Question: what else is required besides a piston/cylinder kit? It looks from the surface like a fairly straight forward job. Anything I should know before I spend $75-100 bucks to try and resurrect my baby?
Thanks in advance!
