This listing is for a used Stihl 038 AV Super Pro Chainsaw that needs some work, and is missing some parts. The pictured 20” bar and chain is included.
The engine has good compression and will start, run and idle. I performed a compression test and got a reading around 163 psi. I also removed the muffler, and the piston and cylinder look to be in good condition. I noticed some discoloration on the side of the piston, but no scoring (see photos for detail, the first piston photo shows the upper portion of the piston and rings, the second photo shows the discoloration lower on the piston below the rings). The 038 Super has a 66.8cc 2-cycle engine which requires mixed fuel (2-cycle oil in gasoline).
Condition notes for the saw:
The chain brake handle (flag) is missing. The brake band is also missing.
The air filter element needs to be replaced, and the saw would likely benefit from some refurbishing of other wear / deterioration items (fuel lines, impulse line, etc.). I noticed a fuel leak from the top of the fuel tank if the saw was tilted backward or turned upside down. I'm not sure if the leak is from the fuel tank vent or around the fuel hose, but I don't think the tank is cracked.
The rear handle foot pad has some distressing on it, but is not broken through.
The front handle is bent some (as can be seen in photos).
The chain catcher is missing.
