Most of you know I’ve just rescued a 044 not long ago. Now I just got another 044 at almost no cost. This puppy believe it or not is actually in a better shape compared to the other one. To be continued…

Holy crap for real? I thought it’s a 044 cuz the serial number starts with 144. I also noticed there are some differences between this saw and the 044 I have, starting with the air filter compartment and stuff.

If you remove the black spit back guard you’ll notice a rather awkward shaped velocity stack, as opposed to the smaller air filter mount on the 044

I’m in a hunt for 046 gas tank, so far I only see 044 or ms440 which has a tiny part different than mine. I circled the area. From what I’ve read it will fit but it’s a smaller gas tank.

Not sure if I want to continue this project. A 046 fuel tank is hard to come by. A lot of MS440 and MS460 fuel tanks are for sale but not 046. That makes me think 046 has low production number?

If you don't mind a flippy cap on the gas tank and a screw cap on the oil tank, get a 460 tank.

I bought a MS460 today, and it looks identical to this 046, only thing different is the fuel cap and the fuel vent. What gave it away that you know for sure it’s a 046?
The black partition wall divider between the air filter and carb and the black spitback guard. And the poly flywheel
