For sale (or possible trade): Stihl 044C (71cc) saw. The "C" is the designation for the model equipped with an automatic choke. The auto-choke on this saw is all in place and seems to be fully functional. The saw starts easily hot or cold. There are a couple cosmetic issues: part of the chain brake handle is broken, but chain brake is fully functional. Also, the clutch cover has some missing metal. I'm most inclined to sell (PM me with offer) but may consider trades.

Nice saw, I just wish it wasn't so beat.

Hi XSKIER, the "beat" part you see on the outside is from this saw spending too many years sliding around in a utility box on a work truck. (This damage also resulted in the broken chain brake handle.) The inside of this saw is super clean and there is definitely a lot of life left on the power head. This saw will cut wood for many more years.

Did you receive this 044c from Gary in January? Or might there be another one left floating around out there? I'm just kinda bummed about the pieces busted out of the crankcase is all... :(

Except that the case is broken at the rear mount on the clutch side. That's going to be an issue.

Hey! Remi didn't mention it in the description, so you're not supposed to point it out!

Well, the saw could be run that way, but it's going to be an issue and eventually the mount will pull out of the case for lack of structural support.

I have used case halves I'd be more than happy to give someone to swap out on this saw, but it's gonna need to be done.

Wow,that's a strong accusation of a stand up guy.If the photos were taken in such a way to deliberately omit the av mount damage ,I could see the cynicism.I don't see how the description and photos were meant to deceive.

So if a person pays 500 plus shipping and jj is kind enough to give someone a case and a person pays to get the case replaced, a rebuild would be in place ?? A few new covers , saw, case install and rebuild and it sounds like about a 1000$ saw? wow! these 044 must be good saws and collectible? Anyone know for sure what it would cost to do all this? Im sure this can be made into a very nice saw??

The video shows how well the saw runs. I don't see how the AV mount will pull out of the case unless the operator is wrestling the saw through a cut. Like with any saw, keep the chain sharp and let the chain do the work.

I certainly agree that a saw as rare as this 044C (with a fully functional auto-choke) may end up as part of a display/collection, and if that happens, I can see the new owner wanting to put some new cases on it. However, the saw doesn't need anything: it's 100% functional.

I measured the compression. The base gasket was removed prior to the video and replaced with Dynartex RTV gasket maker. Gauge reading about 180 psi.044C comp gauge 1.JPG
