Have an 045 I bought from the original owner 5 or 6 years ago. Recently no spark. 99% sure it has a points ignition but won.t know until a flywheel puller I ordered gets here. Did a little research and found there is an electronic upgrade out there. My question is should I just stay with the points ignition or go for the upgrade?

Electronic upgrades can offer smoother operation and potentially fewer maintenance hassles. If you're comfortable with the switch and appreciate the convenience, it could be the better move.

Put saw on ebay and it sold for $50. It was one heck of a saw before losing spark that I couldn't find. It is also the last saw I will ever sell on ebay. Just about gave it away.

Sad to say that is the fate of many of these electronic ignition saws. The ignition is the most valuable part. I have totes of 045 and 056 stuff, no ignitions. I steer clear of these old saws for the most part. What I have I'm not likely to ever add to. Points saws you can always find a way to get running.
