I dont know exactly what happened to your saw that the plug threads are stripped, but a heli coil will work fine to fix it.

A coil my work.I do'nt know because I've never done so on a saw.I have, however tapped the hole larger,to the next sized plug on small engines{aluminum head Briggs].What ever you do is going to require a tear down,so maybe the cylinder replacement would be better.

Check before screwing the "threader" itself, that it doesnt come in contact with the interior of the"head"itself when you screw it.All depending of the shape of the head chamber. You can use same size 14 mm as original.

I prefer the KD Tools system, that uses an oversize tap to cut threads bigger, and then you put a steel insert, that is solid, which the Heli-coil isn't, on the plug, put locktite on the insert and install. This brings the threads back to the standard 14mm. Put grease on the tap and it will catch a lot of the cuttings, and do it with the piston up as far as possible to keep cuttings out of the ports. Once the threads are cut, blow out with air and watch your eyes.

Do not use the usual spring-wound type Heli-Coil insert. Heli-Coil makes a special insert for spark plug thread repair (I suppose it is like the KD kit mentioned by Stihl #1). I have used it on both the gasket-type and tapered seat type plugs and it works fine. The Heli-Coil product is called Sav-A-Thread.

An idea that I came up with over time is crappy low octane fuel causes preignition which can loosen a plug among other things, saw keeps running, plug beats soft thread metal into submission. Helicoil it, use it as a backup saw and buy another primary saw. Also be wary of where you buy your gas. :umpkin:

Hello,

if a Heli coil is done corectly, then the tread will hold better than then original one in Aluminum. On 2 stroke there are no wories with too near valve seats etc.
Heli coil it and use the saw as usual.
