I believe that the saws especially for the North American market have more restrictive emission controls than Europe and other continents, therefore some components could be different because of this.
I think you are right. The US version is rated at .2 hp less than the European. In Canada it is rated as in Europe, though. ;)

Some time ago it was concluded in another tread ("USA made") that the 361 are made (or at least assambled) at two factory sites, in Germany and at Virginia beach, USA.

According to the IPL, the saws for USA, CDN, AUS and NZ has some part numbers different from the rest (cylinder, piston, muffler), so I tend to believe that the saws for these markets are made/assambled in the USA, and saws for other markets in Germany.

Sorry, I saw that thread, but stopped reading it before the 361 was mentioned. I saw the same thing in the IPL, and knew about the hp difference between our saws, and those across the border, and across the Pond. Didn't mean to be redundant.

Take care all,
Jeff

I really don't understand what you are sorry about. :) You have not offended me in any way.

By the way, I think that the real culprit in the US version is the muffler, not the cylinder and/or piston. Should be easy to "correct" if you want to, but a real muffler mod would of cause take you one step further! :blob2: I have no intention of doing it on mine, but who knows much about the future?

I bought an 046 that was blown up for a fairly low price, I am awaiting the piston/cylinder that was backordered. I belive it was owned by a "homeowner" since it is in quite good condition. I do not know how it blew up, but th rings are like melted into the piston.

Lobo, You are wrong about the o.p.e. engines being "cleaner' than a v-6 or v-8. Our beloved little 2 strokes are dirt bombs big time. We throe 25% of the air/fuel/oil mix right out the exhaust without burning it. If you tested the HC emissions of a chainsaw you'd peg the meter and faint at the numbers. One gallon of saw fuel pollutes more than 10 gallons through your passenger car.

Sounds like straight gas to me, and that is common in homeowner saws. Those are the ones to find. Low hours, not much use. Good deals to be had.

Take care all,

I thoght so too, but when I got it the seller shipped it with gas and oil, which is a no no. I drained the gas and it was mixed. Although at 50lbs it was not running anything. It did not have the airfilter, but it was all clean around it. I figured it was parted off. or lost along with muffler cover and chain guard. I bought a max flo kit for it any thoughts?

He could still have run straight gas through it, and the mix gas was the second tank full. Or the mix was mixed too low. Who knows? Regardless, it sounds like you've got a good saw. I've never tried a Max flo kit, and I admit, it's mostly because of the funny looking filter cover you have to use. I've seen the K&N filters that you run with no filter cover, and I thought maybe for bucking firewood in my yard, where the saw won't be out in the woods, falling off of stumps, and I'm in fairly controlled situations, but I'll still probably stay with the factory filter. I've got a dual port muffler on my 460, and it breathes just fine as it is. Almost too fine actually.

Take care all,
Jeff

MS 460, what a beautiful saw, power, torque, reliabilty, it's pure. Get one, or pretend you have a life!

The max flo comes with a back plate so you dont have to use the cover of death. However I like the big foam filter over the little felt band thing.

Thanks for all the input. As for rebuilding a saw or just tuning one up, I don't think that would be a problem for me. I'm Auto Mechanic for a living and hotrod everything I own. Just ask the wife what I did to the lawnmower!!! As for the purpose of the saw, it would be used to cut firewood. I have a Stihl 025 and a McCulloch MAC 3216 now. These just ain't getting the job done anymore. They are good for the small stuff, but when the wood gets big I need more power and a bigger bar.

If anyone has any leads on an 046/MS460 forsale PLEASE let me know. I just got beat on Ebay for one by $5

Thanks
David
I have a ms460 magnum but Its definitely more than 650+. More like 900 with no bar

What because we makes asses of ourselves.

People in general are different from 2005 pretty sure in a negative way
