It doesnt have chain speed like a new saw, it isnt new [1982], but it has torque on the hardwoods and starts on the first pull most everytime. I only use it for bucking large wood now, but dammit it is a great saw. it was actually given to me and it currently is running the original bar and chain it came with. The guy before me hit is with his riding lawn tractor and cracked the cover, but that is it.

Nice truck Dan. Too bad that stuff is in the way.

:hmm3grin2orange:

I've never had the privelidge of running an 048 but it looks like she earned her keep from the pics.

What size bar is that?

Cool pics, but you are a bit low on PPE.......:biggrinbounce2:

I like the axe also, probably a Fiskars 2400, but a bit newer than mine.....

Nice saw Dan. We had an 048 at a small tree Co. where I got my start. We used it mostly for bucking big wood and flushing stumps. You're right, not fast chain speed but torquey and ran flawlessly for all the years we used/abused it. Until the day my boss drove over it with his PU.:jawdrop:

Some new plastic, plug and air filter and she was back in business, tough saw.

Yeah the PPE that I wear is almost all that I can stand. I know I need chaps, but They cover so little on me and they do not go around my waist or my thighs.

I think it is here to stay. I do have an old 090 that is being restored, but what to use it on??????? I guess it takes the Homelite 5-30 or 7-21 spot.

048av rules in the cool factor

i have one of these old girls. just rebuilt the clutch and the oiler system. try to start it and it would not start for all of my effort. the muffler came off and she started and run like a scald cat. i hope to be able too run a 36" Oregon power match bar and full skip square ground chain if i can build a better muffler. i plan on using it too fall bigger timber this fall. i like the power too weight. better built than what other people have said on AS. better power to weight than a 066 stihl. i like the older saw because you can rebuild them and modify them till the day you can not run them any more.

I am blessed since mine is almost unused, before me.

When I get a full bar length of hardwood under cut she starts to slow down, but not with the conifers.

The local fallers all use 066/660 saws and some still tag away with 088/880
