Hello all! I am looking for a replacement recoil starter for this saw. I took it to a Stihl repair center and they told me the saw was outdated and couldn't get the parts. Any help!

Do you need the entire side cover or just the recoil parts inside?

All the parts are available from a Stihl (I just checked) - Spring, Rope rotor kit, pawls... your dealer may not have them in stock, but they are available from Stihl so all he has to do it order them for you. Maybe find another dealer?

Unless I'm wrong, the TS510 starter is the same. its an 051 minus oiler and with a different sprocket I think.

I belive you are at the mercy of MVS (Mississippi Valley Stihl) which is the supplier for all the dealers in your area. They are terrible at stocking and it is not the fault of your local dealer.

It is up to you to sort out who is a good saw shop and who is not. There are a bunch of dealers near me (less than half hour drive) but only two are worth going to. There is another great saw shop about an hour away but in a direction I rarely travel. There are nearly two dozen within the half hour range from me but most I will never return to because of their (lack of) service or knowledge.
