If that's an 066, then why doesn't the recoil cover have STIHL moulded into the cover ?
Looks more like an 064 recoil cover, but 064's didn't have decomps, and I thought 066 flat tops had no decomps - weren't the decomps brought in with the bubble plastics ?

The MS 660`s have the Stihl name molded into the recoil cover, 064 covers are thinner than the 066 covers and there were many later 066`s with decomps.

When you add displacement to a saw, the case volume is generally small in relation to the saw's size, and the cylinder has to be ported differently to function properly. The AM BB kits generally just replicate (and poorly at that) factory porting, so they usually deliver reduced performance instead of increased performance.

I will also tell you stick with a OEM cylinder. I thought i was going to do a BB on my 660 but changed my mind after i found out very few people like them. Cant wait to see this saw running

Hey Nuggy, I'm on shift at work right now so not home to look at mine but I believe the number is stamped on the case to the right of muffler, above the bar area... maybe I'm thinking of my 029, but I'm pretty sure that's where you'll find it.

Thanks singletrack100 and mop army... I'll have to take another look, but I went up and down and around that thing and couldn't see a thing. Thanks!

One piece of info I didn't notice mentioned is that this saw is the red light model with the oversized recoil cover to fit over that larger aluminum flywheel.

I never measured the width of the flywheel until this got brought up. The difference of the fin type creates an optical illusion.
The recoil is a different shape entirely for the red light giving it the appearance of being wider. The red light recoil is on the left. The style on the right was on the early 066 and early 660 I have on the shelf.

The top corner of the red light recoil has an angle that matches the dog eared corner of the red light top cover. It appears that all 066 flat top models have this design.

064s recoils are easy to spot, they are thinner, lack the clipped corner Jim displayed, and also have a series of distinctive horizontal bars near the top right quadrant where the screw is.
