Got a Stihl 07 for a decent price. How do you tell a super and what do you think there worth in running condition? Looks a little rough but runs. Has a nice roller bar and good chain.

Thanks

That is AWESOME! I passed up a beautiful running 08 a while back for $80, not sure on the value now, probably should have picked it up. Parts may be hard to find. Good luck.

That is one of my all time favorite Stihls. It comes with a removable hood. I have one that is missing the muffler on it and is missing some ignition parts.

Nice saw, the 07 was the 07 no super which was replaced by the 07 S which had slightly different paint finish and recoil cover. The 07 is a rare enough saw but it's a shame yours is missing the original bar although the roller on it is great. There is a member looking for one have a look in the classifieds.

I have two 07Ss. They are one of my very favorite. There's not another saw like them with the hinged hood. One of mine is a dedicated shelf queen wearing acrylic urethane paint. The other still wears it's very worn original finish, but has been mechanically rebuilt. It's a favorite at GTG. The cut very well for their age. 77cc in an old top-handle saw with a hinged hood is just very cool. I have no idea what they're worth. However, they're worth more than an 08. The 08 was mass produced and used in the rental industry for ages.

I have never owned either, however, I believe the 07 and 07S have different pistons also.
07 piston ring locating pins are in the centre of the ring grove and are recessed. The inside of the ring ends are relieved to fit over (the outside) the end of the locating pins.
07S has the more traditional style.
AFAIK either piston can be used in either cylinder, it is just the piston and rings that need to match.
