Stihl 07 - late 50’s early 60’s.
It’s actually firing 6 degrees advanced from what it should be (firing at 31 degrees BTDC and should be firing at 25 degrees BTDC) but the points are so worn that even fully retarded at the base plate, it’s still advanced. This is why I set the idle is a little high or it tends to die.
Anyway, the old girl is up and running after I did a full strip down and rebuild. The points and condenser are old and I didn’t fit the kill wire as I have a new set of points and condenser on order. I’ll do the final wiring and will fine tune it then. This was more of just a quick test to see it’s all running ok.
As you can hear, the air vane govenor is working nicely - now I can’t wait to get her into some wood for a final tune.
This sound will bring some back to the late 50’s when this saw was made.
Someone in the 80’s decided to fit a CDI and convert it to electronic ignition which turned out to be causing my WOT running / spark problems. These points were actually taken from my 08s for proof of concept.
Wet weight is 26.45 lbs / 12 kg’s it makes the 661 feel like a 180..
