I am a salesman at a Stihl dealership in Canada. I recently had a call from someone in Pa. wanting to buy two new 090's. He seemed to think we could still get them. Anybody got some good ones for sale?

Well,you missed it

Ole Steve had one on e-bay a short while ago, looked real nice also.

Might have??

I only saw the one,but he hasn't peeped a word about the 820 WestBend,How come?Me thinks a secret weapon;)

West Bend

Al,
Steve here... Funny you should mention that... Here's what I bought. Piston and clylinder where scored bad. But the saw was all there.

No problem

I haven't been inside a WestBend,in probabley 35 yrs, but,if I remember, they are an iron lined engine, with a domed piston. You most likely know, that parts are out there.A liner should be able to be installed. They were the only thing that kept McCulloch from complete dominance of the kart racing.Less rpm,but more power. All is not lost,it can be saved.

After an at least a half a dozen emails and an hour and a half phone conversation with Art Martin. I had some idea what to do woth the saw.

The saw is a Montgomery Ward WD99. The saw was made in the early 60's. The motor is a West Bend 820 which back then was made at the old West Bend, then Chrysler, then Mariner plant in the town of Hartford WI, not but 8 to 10 miles from here.

After a trip to Fleet Farm and a sandblaster, and a trip to the auto paint store. Oh and a long lunch to pick up two US820 kart engines from a guy near my job. And a big bottle of Mount Royal, I had my friend Greg, down the street, blow some paint on the saw. I color matched the residual paint before I stripped it.

Al, It's got a chrome bore... Far as I know the 820's always did.
Almost junked the block.. Got hooked up with an 820 guy and did some porting to it. I then sent it in to have it re nicacel'd. Nicacel can be put on thicker and then turned back down the the original bore size. I guess that bill is gona be around $175

Lotsa teeth in that sprocket

Looks like an eleven or twelve tooth. That outta throw a rooster tail.:blob2:

Eats 2100 Home d Lites for lunch... almost

Here's a video clip of the saw with a US motors 820 stock kart engine. This engine, other than electronic ignition is identical to the old West Bend that came out of the saw chassis. This motor is still being made bout an hour south west of here. Motor has a bigger carb and I was able to talk the guy out of the original pipe that came off the motor... I just cut off the can to save weight..

How many cc's is that beast?

What RPM did they turn stock?

Is it direct or gear drive?

What RPM will it turn after you're done with it?

Seems pretty peppy

on a barn beam. How does the big boy do on big tree, like this sapling.

V12!!!

This pic if for Scott Mueller and Les Born... Found a new home for my V12 reeds... lol

This is a pic of my V12 reeds and HR Tilly(off the old 2100 Homelite) atop a GEM 820 base.. WOW what a find... shoulda bought a lottery ticket the day I found that intake!!!

12 petal reeds

They pop up on e-bay,but rarely,as does the big Tillotson, most likely not in the best of shape. That 2 cycle kart stuff is getting hard to find.:(
