Gotto make the video into an mpeg so it's small

Movie

Hey Macman, try a right click, and save as target, then play it back. You must have also downloaded service pack 2?

066

Well,we kind of got off the 090,but it's interesting. In all honesty,an 066,is most likely the standard wereby most saws are compared to.In the stock form, you can bog them down. That 7 hp rating,is only at that high rpm.In a big old tough tree, they are no match for a big old reed valve saw.All in all though, they are a dang good saw,one of the few I don't own-----yet:D

Thanks for the help Al it worked Looks like a good running saw Steve are you going to bring it to Pauls next year

090's

Canguy...
Steve here... Sorry i ruined your thread... Anyway. I sold my nice non AV 090 for around $900 US. I had a NEW 090AV on Ebay a while back... I think it got up to $1300US but didn't meet my reserve.. one of the high bidders emailed me after the auction ended and paid me $1700US

Quadruple 090's

So Steve: The question begs, If you don't mind, how many of the four 090's in the picture do you actually still have? Mike (PS love that picture, its a keeper)

OH nine OH's

Mike,
Steve here... The two saws on the left are West German saws, made around 1984. They maybe had a tank of gas through them if that. I kept one and sold one to my buddy Trent that I cut wood with. The saw on the top right I sold on Ebay. That was a real clean 090 non av made around 1976. The saw on the bottom right was brand new, and made probably in the late 1990's. That saw was sold too.
Oh I just kept one...sorry i was rambling

Hi Steve, it didn't take you long to get that Wards saw fixed up. I can't wait to see it run at Baraboo next year. Our Macs are going to have some tough competition from you. Is the 2100 going to run again?
Scott

Is the 2100 going to run again?

Scott,
Steve here... The 2100 is just going to be used as a woods saw, from time to time, unless I find someone who just has to have it...
Ya never know...could end up on Ebay too

Ya but

If I were a betting man,I would bet you won't let it go for what I have in mine, which is $125,including the shipping from Oregon. The old sniper strikes again.:D

What is a good really big reed saw to buy? I have an 066 and I would like something bigger, mainly for fun I have about 5 white oak trees that are huge and I thought it would be wise to get a bigger saw.

While low end grunt may make you feel good, chain speed is what makes a saw cut fast. If your 066 won't cut the mustard (pun intended) then purchase an 088. If Llamaberts ticker can handle the trip to the Stihl dealer you can get a great deal from him. I've purchased 2 088's from him and will vouch for the fact he is an honest man........even though he doesn't know the difference between semi-skip and full skip chain.
If you're looking to save money and get the same results send your 066 out to one of the saw builders and have them give it some attitude. All of my saws are modded to some degree and I wouldn't have them any other way. A modded 066 should pull a 42" bar no problem. My modded 044 will run a 36" bar without problem.

Bladeheart reply

They haven't made reed valves,in nearly 30 yrs.An 066,will handle everything most people will do.Those big old Macs and Homeys, are just a piece of history, for collectors, like myself. They are normally good cutters, but parts are rare. Most saw shops, will just look at you funny,if you try to get repair work done,or buy parts.I am not trying to discourage anyone from collecting and restoring,as myself. It is,however ,not for the easily discouraged. As far as big reed valve saws,Homelite 1050, and 2100s,McCulloch sp 105 and sp 125,would be my choice.

thank you both for you replies, I can easily pull a 36 inch bar, however, with the 66 I was wondering if it would be too much to run a 42". I love the big old saws, my dad used to have some monster that weighed so much when i was a kid that I couldnt harldy pick it up. I thought it would be fun if nothing else to have one. Again, thanks for the input!

I wish! My father owned several Nusash replacement window franchises. If he ever ran a chainsaw, I never saw it. My brother owns a CS-3450 echo and my father-in-law owns an 018 stihl. Myself excluded these are the only chainsaws in my family. None of my family members or even relatives worked in the green industry much less aboriculture.

No, in my family I am quite the pioneer.

Now in my extended AS family...........:D
