I have the Clausing lathe and the Bridgeport mill is down the road. Let me know when you can come by and turn them out.

On another note it is going on 3AM here and I am going on about 6HRS sleep in 2 days so I will need to respond later. I was trying to help folks out but I guess it was not seen that way.

I meant no offense Bill. I was just giving my observation about the price for one sprocket--I was not insinuating that you weren't helping anyone out. Not to mention, I would love to get into machine work anyway. :rockn:

I love it so much I do it every day...:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

I am going to try to post some pics of a gear for the 090. It was very late last night when I took them. At the time I grabbed a 1/2" instead of a .404 but the design is the same. Hopefully in the pics you can see the complexity of the design. It is not as simple as the Mac and Homelite gears. I will also post a picture of a Homelite and a Mac .404 gear. Later tonight I will post a pic of the rim adapter.

Well sir,as a matter of fact that picture I posted was in fact your spur if I recall correctly.

Al,

I am lost (not all that abnormal). What picture are you referring to ? For some reason I cannot seem to figure out how to post pictures now. I am blaming it on my new ISP but it may be operator error. I have many pics to post if I evere figure out how to post them.

Another attempt at posting some pictures. Hopefully they will show up. They are actually of a 1/2" 090G gear but the design is the same. If these load I will add more.

No offense taken whatsoever. :blob2: I know it seems like it should be reasonably easy to make. I wish it was. I personally have a decent supply of the gears but I am frustrated at the lack of options. I am trying to explore options for others.

Why doesn't Stihl stock these? You'd think common consumables would be something that would never be discontinued. Instead of getting a bunch of folks together to buy third party parts, get all them folks together to pressure Stihl into providing them again.

I'd hope the #1 saw manufacturer of the world would stand up for it's customers.

I'm certainly not evangelising for Stihl but most likely these old gear drives haven't been use in decades .They are not going to supply parts for something they have little demand for.Parts for the 042/048 are getting harder to find also.

Stihl, along with just about any German manufacturer uses complex designs and specialty parts in the their everyday business.I think their reasoning is that they then control the after sale parts market.I also guess they forgot or never heard about "Yankee ingenuity" nor actually do they care.

We have out foxed that bunch of geniouses at work in dealing with machine tools and I see no reason not to in dealing with chainsaws.

I am currently converting a david bradley to run a 3/8ths ripping chain. i measured the shaft, got a rim sprocket for a 2100 husky which is larger, and cut most of the clutch cover off on a lathe.
Then I machined a bushing to take up the space between the shaft and sprocket , braze welded it, then cut the slot for the pin. ( by "I" i mean my friend mike.)

Al,

I now see the error of my ways. I thought you were taking about the picture you posted in #15. I belive the picture you were indicating was mine was the one in #3. That is correct it was one of mine I am glad someone still has that pic around. I was confused (which is normal). We changed ISP's last week and I have been having major problems with pictures. It was my mistake.

Now to the isssue of the 090G gear. I have a few for myself. I am trying to help others out. I can send you a new one to take a look at. I know they say a picture is worth a thousand words but the real thing is priceless. I have no problem sending one out.

On another note I am still working on the rim option.

That would be great.I kind of speculate that perhaps,as an option, the spur could be made in two pieces. The backer as one and the actual spur as another.I'll get back to you in a couple of days via regular e-mail if your address has not changed.

At the present time I'm kind of up to my rear end in alligators .As the summer progresses and I have some time,I will attempt to finish a log splitter and a bandsaw mill I've been fiddling with forever .That would be a good time to delve into this spur thing, when I once again don my "machinests hat".As it is now I wear my electricians hat every day and my auto mechanics hat and plumbers hat more frequently than I really care to.

While on the subject though,a question.Does the 090G use a concave shaped front backer in conjuction with the cut out spur? One of the few things my Stihl collection of books does not cover is the 090G,but I do have the 070 which is a second cousin,so to speak.
