I Have a Stihl 192T that I use for packing on the bike for trail clearing. It needs sharpening, but I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out what size file.

It has a 12" Sithl PICO bar on it. The only stamp on the chain is a "1" on the drive cog (meaning gauge .043" 1.1mm). I measured its picth at 3/8"

BUT the Stihl guide says there are two types of "3/8" pitch: regular "3/8" and "3/8 P" - does the "P" mean pico?

I looked up file sizes on pferdusa.com and it got even worse:

3/8 PICO MICRO 4mm file
3/8 PICO MICRO Narrow 4mm file
3/8 PICO STANDARD 3.5mm file

Any suggestions? Also do I need special holders for this type of chain or will the regular oregon ones work?

thanks

I believe the file you need is a 5/32" round file. An Oregon holder should work, yes.
Good luck.

5/32 aka 4 mm

Grab a box of 5/32 files, most will be marked as 4 mm as well. After all, what's .00126 inches among friends.

As to holders either the Stihl or Oregon will work. Just be sure to grab the proper one. They will be marked for 5/32 file and 3/8 low-profile. The Oregon will be a little less money, the Stihl a bit higher quality in manufacture, they both will do the job.

Take Care
