What am I missing in looking at these:

353: more cc's, less weight, decompression valve, metal clutch cover, an extra year warranty

270: intelli carb

Is it really this cut and dry?

From my point of view, you're looking at them pretty accurately. I like the concept of a METAL clutch cover for some reason, and the orange saw is pretty hard to lose if you set it down somewhere. what are your needs? specifically what you're looking to do with the saw, size of wood being cut, amount of time a year you'll likely use the saw, and so on.

whichever one suits your needs, that you like and can afford is the one to buy. obviously the saw isnt going to work well if you dislike it immensely.

My needs are firewood, cleaning trails/roads. I want a high quality saw under 12 lbs.

considering that all I know about both is the specs on paper,
the 353 appears to me to be quite well built, and if I recall right is on the 346XP chassis.

Take this for what its worth. someone with some real world experience with these saws will chime in and tell you what they think.

climb

i climb all (most of) the day with my 346xp,it has a hard life an it holds up good for me(but i am from fl):fart:

If i had to own only one chainsaw with what you need it for i would go for the Husqvarna 346XP . If $$ is a problem then get the 353 . Look at the big picture , if you would like to have a great chainsaw for many years 346xp . If this is a one time deal / use or just something needed for a few years then get the less $$ saw.

rspike do you know much about 575xp
:blob2:
I have run one a time or two..... I dont have a problem with them . I like the 372xp just a little bit better but i also have more 372xp time under my belt. There both fine for felling saws and trunk / bucking saws . I think the 575xp is rated for a longer bar then the 372xp ( 575xp - 36" & 372xp 32" ) I wouldnt want to limb with eather saw thats for sure . I dont think i have read anything "bad" about the 575xp from people that "do" own them .

The 353 is exactly the same saw as the 346xp, except that it has a larger and slightly heavier engine, with a decomp valve.

Although the Ms 270 also has a metal crankcase, it is not vertically split like the genuine pro saws, and the saw is probably not as easily rebuilt.
