If Stihl and Husqvarna merged into one company, do you think they would capture more of the market that they do now?

What do you think?

The new Stihlsquevarna ! Catchy name.

Maybe instead of fighting one another, those two should just join forces.

Andreas Stihl & Daughters

sounds pretty good to me :Eye: :Eye: :blob2:

if stihl bought lux or lux bought stihl,it would sure mnake life less interesting.
what the heck would wew argue about.
lets see . heck my solo 634 is the best made.kinda dont have the same ring does it.
:)

It would be great if Stihl put the clasp down hood and the turbo air injection on the 066 with the same anti vibe system as the 385.
Why is it that the Americans and Canadians cant build a good saw?
Any why is it that Steve Melzer cant grind chain on his Silvey?
John

I can understand why Canadians couldn't built a good saw, but the American angle has me baffled. I think Canadians could probably make a killer Daiquiri Whacker.

Grinding chain

Steve here...
I think if I ground chain as good as John...I'd stick to photography.

The big problem that I see is that they wouldn't be motovaited to spend on R&D and the prices would go up. I think it would make things worse for us!

I think the US could produce a premium quality chainsaw; we did do just that, once.

I think it's probably been well-covered here before, but the greed exemplified during the Reagan years pretty much did 'em in. The name of the game, then, (as now, for many) was stock price and market share.
Sell lots of product in K-mart, prop up the percieved value of the stock and keep the stockholders happy(most of whom couldn't care less whether or not a tiny fraction of the population...us...had to chew down trees with their teeth).

I've thought about that a lot, and if somebody resurrected the Homie or McC names, or even Clinton, Strunk, or Mall, I'd pay $1000 for a monster quality 60cc chain saw, and I'd probably buy a new one every other year just to do my part to keep them alive. The odd years I'd buy a 50cc or an 80cc saw.

That pretty much captures what I was going to say. If stihl and husky merged that would reduce competition and make the new united company offer either the same quality saws at a higher price, and/or poorer quality saws at the same price we now pay for the god saws.

Stihl and husky fighting for market share is what makes the pro saws as good as they are, for a reasonable price.

If a McCollough/Homelite merger could broker a deal with
E-Lux, they could whisk away all of the Poulan/Husky hybrids
and form a huge alliance of crap saws, then Husqvarna would
no longer be a tainted brand[damaged goods].
