I just bought one at local stihl dealer for less then 40 bucks and a 20 inch for 41 bucks

HaHa....that doesn't prove anything...doesn't even say what kind of bars you bought or which style....based on this you may have gotten ripped off...I can buy a 18" bar AND chain for less than $40. If it really is for ES bars, then you have an awesome dealer or a really depressed economy....the last time I bought a stihl ES 3/8 50 20" bar and RS chain for my MS361 it was over $100, and I know the chain wasn't $59...and I checked at all 3 of the dealers near me and they were within a few bucks of each other.

Wow, that's a good price. I checked the exact same setup at my dealer and was looking at 145 without tax.

$80 even for 36" bar. $30 for loop of chain. I think a 20" es bar is under $60 and 72 link rs chain is $22. Varies between dealers some. I have a lot of dealers to choose from. Even the local hardware hank had a 36" es bar for $87 but his chains are high. I know a 18" green .325 is $25
