So to get a more accurate year of manufacture I would need to remove the side cover and check the points ?

Is there any other way I can get a better idea of the year it was manufactured ?

No, the serial number change in the bulletin puts it before 1981.

Not that I know of. Any record of that sale, or anything else, would only possibly be surviving in a basement somewhere. None of that would have made it into the digital age.
