Stihl call it a drain plug, but there is a Stihl tool called a 'Crankshaft locking nut', that fits in there to lock the crank, to help with removing the clutch, etc .
And the lack of tag's was common on Super's!

So it was a mule before I started?! Strange that its a super base but had a 58mm p&c. Do you think the lower muffler mount may be from a replaced top end?

Can't find any serial number anywhere, as I said no tag, nothing on the ridge by the clutch

The early 090 cases's were just Contra S cases's anyway. Only the top end was different.
( not sure when they added that lower muffy mount boss ).
It is easy to swap on the smaller jug and convert an S to a 070 or a 106 contra.
One of my first saws was a 106 contra jug on an 090 case. I turned it back to an 090.
The gear drive saws come with the smaller jug but will swap to the larger one pretty quick. :msp_thumbup:
Finding a good 137 contra jug and piston is the hardest part.
This was an 090 G 106cc converted to a 137 contra topper, called it a Contra GS clone. :biggrin:

I take it you don't have a Stihl 070/090 work-shop manual(service manual). The manual should be still available from your Stihl dealer!!

Back at post #371, AS Member SEAM, suggested that the later Contra case was as per the 070/090 case and would accept either cylinder, (58 or 66mm) it would appear to be so!
I'm working on a Contra Gear-drive for a friend, part of the job is machining the case to accept the 137cc cylinder, it's at the shop now, there was a bit of stuffing around to get the case true and square!......Is there a easy way, am i missing something?

The Contra G has been around since the Contra was introduced in 1959. The Contra "S" and "GS" came out in 1964. I wonder if the "G" and "GS" shared a common case :msp_confused: . But I doubt there ever was a Contra G(S) with the 090G case which would accept both cylinders.
Unfortunately there's no common case for the "G" that i know of! Hence the machining job i'm doing on a 106cc G....

The STIHL logo on orange background appeared long after the Contra was replaced by the 070/090. Only the very last (or current) 070/090 have this kind of starter.
Yes,...... but the starters are in sequence as Stihl manufactured them!

I don't believe the Contra G was introduced until 1964. I could be wrong but, in 1959 the debut of the "regular" Contra was a pretty big deal.

I have several dealer packs with models and pricing from 60-62 with no mention or a gear drive model.
pics about the G and GS tell that G was first out before the GS. I think maybe G came in 64 and GS came by 65 or 66.
1958 Blitz BLK ad that anounces the contra lightning release in late 58.
Yes, i think so, the old style AV, with the bar that runs across the top is very 'handy' on a chainsaw mill!
