With all honesty, I have no idea if the new tank vent was tested. I was not there to witness the test. I would kinda assume our lead mechanic would have tested it.

Is there a relatively quick & simple way I could test the tank vent say over my lunch hour or something?

Nick

You can open the cap when problems appear, and close it again. If it helps for a while, the vent is suspect.

...or you can run the saw with the cap open, and see if it helps.

Update. Before I even got to work today, the customer picked up his ms 200T. Guess I'll never get to find out what the problem really was. Maybe that's a blessing. It may have turned into a project in frustration.

I ran into another good one today though. We had a customer purchase a preowned Stihl ms250 over the weekend. Well today, he brought it back in complaining the saw doesn't want to run very well. Turns out the customer filled the fuel tank w/bar & chain oil, and the oil tank w/mix gas. So we drained and flushed the bar oil out of the fuel tank. Installed a new fuel pick up body. Drained the mix gas out of the oil tank. Refilled the tank with the correct fluids. The saw started and smoked like a freight train for a bit. But soon cleared up and ran like a champ.

Thanks again everyone.

Some of those Mighty Vac testors come with a little plastic container, works great to see if the venting is working. Just hook the tester up to the fuel line with the in-line container between the fuel line and the vaccum pump, apply a little vacumm, if the vent is working it will draw fuel out of the tank and pull the fuel into the container. You can do it dry also if you have a gauge on the testor. The same test also works to check for a plugged fuel filter, on those saws that you can't get the filter out of the tank without pushing the fuel line down into the tank.

Just thought I'd do a quick follow-up for anybody doing a future search. Quick stop by our dealer and almost $60 later I was headed home with a new carb. Saw starts and idles like new, comes off idle nice and quick like it's suppose to. I'll get a chance to run it in a week or two but don't expect to have any problems based on the way it's running now. Thanks to all for the help.
