So I have a stihl ms290 that just started leaking bar oil into the case. It drained the whole tank out. I found a video on YouTube saying it might be a oil line that dry-cracked that runs from the reservoir to the oiler... just wanted to see if this is a common thing and if it's a part that can be ordered online because unfortunately my few local stihl dealers have terrible parts service and just like to push new stuff. I am the kinda person that likes to use stuff til it cannot be fixed to use anymore Haha, and fixing stuff is usually cheaper then buying brand new anyway. I mean you are using it to tear stuff up in the field not modeling it with women in bikinis... part numbers would be great if anyone knows. Thanks mike

just fill the tank with fuel mix, and it will leak a lot faster. I have never came across an oil line that was cracked, I would find the leak before ordering parts. You can see the oil line up behind the black wrap handle from the bottom.
You will see it near the oil adjust hole.

Yeah I havnt set aside time to take it apart yet. I just figured wouldn't hurt to get some helpful pointers for the issue before I even get into it so it might not need as much attention/time set aside for the repair Haha cuz i know how it goes when fixing stuff, its always more then you first think it out to be. But if you dont think it's the oil line leaking what could have just randomly started leaking? Btw we keep it in a case so somewhat decently treated, not gonna lie it might get put into that case pretty dirty sometimes but for the most part its "garage kept" lol.

Hmmm I havnt noticed oil on the side of saw where cap is but mostly all over the bottom of saw but like i said i havnt put to much into it yet besides making this thread Haha just notice it leaking this last month so figured since the bottom of case keeps filling with bar oil its time to do something.... I will indeed keep an eye on the caps' seal tho, this week gonna be using it alot so can watch where it comes from.... would be awesome if it was just that cuz dont have to even take a screw out to fix that....

I have also watched a Husqvarna 51 saw leak bar oil through a cap that was not tightened down enough. Even an eighth of a turn on a Husqvarna bar oil cap can make a difference. The Husky may not be using a flippy cap but both Stihl and Husqvarna rely heavily on O-rings.
