Anyone know why MS 261 clutch springs break frequently?
They come in a bag with a Stihl OEM logo and number on it?
I have a copycat 038/381 that I just love, after I solved all the troubles with it its just ultimately reliable.
One of the things I learned about it early on was that that the Farmertec clutch springs would snap every 3 hours or so when milling spruce. I changed them for OEM Stihl clutch springs and they have never failed since.

I bought some springs and parts from my favorite Stihl dealer. The tip I was told for spring installation is not to pry and pull with needle nose pliers as that weakens and advances them to break.

Working on other spring assembly like car or truck brakes never think about such things. But he has been around a long time and has seen a thing or two. Took his advice and carefully installed the springs.
