I really wish someone on this site that has too much $$ would go buy one and take it apart. I want to see how good the copies are.

if that is a copy it is one of the best yet!
upon zooming in, the 'stihl' seems to be raised on the clutch cover.... not just a decal. but, my zoom pixelated it a bit so i'm not sure.

an area of concern for me is the 65cc displacement. i think the real 381 is
72cc.

lot of stihl and husky ripp offs and yep thats one trick they use to flog them ,put a genuine stihl bar and chain and clutch cover on :monkey:prob worth more than the power head by itself:cheers:

I'm going to hazard a guess what one might find upon disssassembling these saws:

Aluminum castings, probably sand castings. Not Magnesium. Heavy.

Plastic parts may or may not be injection-molded and likely are not modern polymers designed for OPE use. I'd expect hand-trimmed vacuum-formed parts, probably made of brittle styrene, actually.

Tolerances loose as a goose; oil pump may not deliver much oil, bearings will pound themselves out quickly, and some bolt holes will have as much as 25% thread depth.

Parts normally expected to be heat-treat steel (crank, rod, wrist pin, etc) will be case-hardened mild steel, and microscopic inspection will reveal lots of stress cracks as they were water quenched to obtain a glass-hard surface. Expect bearing surface spalls within an hour of run time. Other parts, like bar studs will be the equivalent of our grade 0, about as soft as cheese.

The seller obviously doesn't know much about what he's selling, judging by the sale page. I imagine is just another ebay hopeful praying (preying?) that he can find enough rubes to buy before he gets shut down.

I have a supplyer and figured I can build a complete aftermarket 380 for around $400. Didnt figure it out, but probably around 500 I could have a complete aftermarket 070.

I bet you can find a mint Stihl 038MII that will last longer, for $400.

I'd rather support the German economy (now) than the Chi-Coms (ever)

P.S. WHOOPS. those SOBs have been using Chi-Com carbs for years,,,,,Arrgghhh!!!!

P.P.S. But a 038 comes with a Bing!!!
