I've never had problems with chains I buy online. What brands do you use? I usually use Oregon, packaged in Oregon boxes. I don't use Carlton chain anymore, since I don't see a difference.

That's strange. The only problem I have with Oregon out of the box is that it usually isnt sharp enough for me. I always take down the rakers, and then resharpen it. But, thats true with any chain I pull out new.

you guys get some bad dealers.
i order stihl parts almost every day m-f only days i dont is when i dont have any to order.

I waited 3 weeks to get my vacuum pump from stihl. that was just cause they lost the order at warehouse, had it in stock..

i get people all the time callling wanting prices on parts, i dont mind giving them the prices for the parts, even if they dont buy them.

That could be true where you are. Around here though, every tree service, logger, and firewood cutter has switched from Stihl to Husky. There are two Stihl dealers, and two Husky dealers. But, the Stihl guys have the prices so high, on saws and accessories, that it's not worth even walking into their shop. Plus, the attitude you get is unbeleivable. I just heard two days ago of a homeowner going to one, and the guy talked him into buying a $600.00 saw to cut a cord or two of firewood. Then, he actually sold this poor guy TWO CARBIDE tipped chains!! The homeowner asked me if I could sharpen them for him, and I had to inform him that I couldnt, he had to go back to the shop where he got them. Now, this gets better. Seems this guy had brought in an older Stihl saw that wasnt running. They told him it was junk, and gave him $50.00 toward the purchase of his new saw. Well, when he took his chains to be sharpened (at $15.00 each) there was his old saw on the shelf, with a price tag of $250.00!! So, needless to say, he is switching to Husky.
