yeah, I remember buying points sets for $5, last one I bought for an old truck was $15 a few years back. So buying a set through the stihlership is gonna be way too expensive! Myself, I'd pull them and try to match them up at an auto parts place.

WOW what a hosing you guys got!!! Part number 1115 400 2000 set of,points for 041 WB AND the 041 AV lists for $21.29!! Is this the same number you are looking for?.....its the only one listed on Mediacat.

They had points at $24.95 asnd $15.95 for the condensor.
Reminds me of a trip to the harley shop for an old flathead I use to run.
Auto parts store was about 1/5th the cost.

I think I may head up to The local auto parts store and see what I can match up.
I'm not real happy with my Stihl dealer anyhow, they billed me for a repair and then I find out later they submitted a warranty claim also.I try my best not spend anymore money there.

Even on a 33 year old saw with high miles?

Yes... the miles are not really that high... If your points are bady burned and worn, then yes, but most just have a gritty surface from the bad condenser not absorbing (and making a circuit path) the stored energy when the points open (and therefore arcing). File ("burnish" is more correct) both surfaces and they will usually be fine. You also have to look at the tip where they rub on the cam for excessive wear, but if they adjust they work.

Cool. Thanks. I'm used to cars where they usually just wear out.

Yep, that's all I did on my old Farm Boss. Cleaned the points, and put in a new condensor from eBay. Ran like a champ after that! Hardest part was pressing the old one out of the stator plate and pressing the new one in. And that really wasn't too bad.

I think that's what I'll do.I just did the top end and got the compression up,but it still doesn' have the grunt it used to have. Also I get kinda like a kackling sound WOT in the cut.
I just figured I'd replace both at the same time. But for that price I'll just do the cond. and dress the points out.
