Does anyone here know the approximate retail cost of an 029 rear handle?
I do not have a price list handy.

Oh, I thought you meant the price of the saw.

what do you expect from some one that took rocky J's avatar?
I also took his house, his truck, his girlfriend, his boat and his bank account. :D

Some dealers have no idea how much it costs them to give "professional" discounts. There is a pamphlet published by OPEDA, Outdoor Power Equipent Dealers Association that outlines how counterproductive the practice is. Everyone on this board who is in business should have their prices based on the product or service they offer and what it costs to provide that product or service, it should not matter who the customer is, the costs remain the same. Bless the ignorant who give their stores away, I will inherit their customers.

skwerl = squirrel + location in Fla + claims to have Rocky's truck, girl, house, & bank account. Guys I think this might be Brian.

Many dealers play a game with parts prices. It goes like this: They inflate the prices 10% or 20% and then make a big deal about giving their "pro" or "select" customers a 10% parts discount. I don't do that in my store; seems a bit un-ethical.

Brian has recently been posting on the chainsaw forum at FF. Either here, or maybe at TH, someone posted a photo of a large truck with Brians name on it. They speculated that Brian might now own a tree service company.

Skwerl, if you are Brian, congratulations on the way you've altered your writing style.

Hi Chris-
I guess technically you could say I own my own tree business. I got the licenses and insurance, but I'm still subbing for the most part. I prefer just doing the actual climbing/ cutting and letting someone else deal with customers, employees, chippers, dump fees, etc. etc. And yes, that was my bucket truck you saw. Dozer Dan posted it on his site and MM reposted it here at AS somewhere.

As far as my writing style being altered, I don't see it. Maybe I'm just finally growing up a little. Just in the last year I discovered that the world doesn't revolve around me.

Brian, thanks for the detailed reply. It's been a while, and I'm looking forward to reading your posts again. Sounds like life is treating you well.

Aw ra best!

Who butters the dealers bread the most?????? a loyal commerical customer who buys a couple of saws a year, not to mention bulk rolls of chain, chain sprockets, air filters five to ten at a time, replacement bars, bar oil and mix by the case, and the little things like seals, gaskets, and carb kits.

Does Joe Smo homeowner or the weekend warrior firewood cutter bring in this much business. I doubt it.

So I guess the guy who works daily with Sthil products and promotes how good they are and the dealer who sold it to them, doesn't deserve to get a little break on price, because it is unethical:bang: Just doesn't make sense to me.

The loggers and cutters around here play the local dealers against one another, to get the cheapest prices, period. They will eventually give up
and bring a saw to me after they have diddled around with it for a month or two But for the most part, the homeowner brings/gives the most profit.
The cutters will drive 30 miles to save a $1.65 on a 20" loop of chain, and I will let them. They ????? about my plug prices, and tell me how much cheaper
Wal-Mart is, and I will give them directions to Wal-Mart.
For me, I prefer dealing with the homeowner/occaisional user.
