There are two different types of chain catchers available for Stihl saws I guess mainly depending on if you have 2 dawgs or not.

Does it make any difference if you use one or the other?

If you have two dawgs, should you use only the round chain catcher? Or does not matter?

Seems to me the curled metal chain catcher would "derail" the chain from the sprocket, but what about the round chain catcher?

Here is the first type - a curled metal chain catcher...

The roller works much better... But... the aluminum hook type is fine...

I rarely throw chains in any case. I do see many hook type broken off on customer saws.

I haven't thrown many chains in my life...

But the ceramic rollers are much nicer to have...

On the other hand the smal aluminum hook type are cheap and easy to replace if they get chewed up...

Gotta go with the roller as well, only thrown chain a few times, but when it happens its nice to have. The ceramic is dirty and scratched up, but it still works like the day I installed it!
