Had a customer bring in a stihl 036 for a new chain. I took off the old chain and made him a new one, then ground the bar for him. I then went to install the new chain and had it on and threw on the side cover and adjusted the chain. I always grab the chain and give it a pull to make sure its free, well it did not move, took cover back off and discovered the inboard clutch drum would not move. took it apart to look at chain brake band and activated the brake handle and it would barely move. everything looked ok, so i called my brother over ( who is the real mechanic ) and he looked at it for a second and discovered a small cable going back towards the back handle. low and behold that the trigger lock on this saw is also an extra brake handle.Bizzare never seen this before. first of all we thought what a great idea.
Then we thought all over again NOT
Anyone run into this saw before.

I believe that's the one they call the 036QS-II.

Closer and closer to having a chainbrake with a saw attached.

Howdy John,

You will find that this rear handle (right hand) brake activator is connected to the dead man, so that if you let go with your right hand, the brake activates. Also when you are trying to start the saw without your hand on the rear handle and throttle, the brake will be on. One more expensive thing to maintain! I'm not so sure I like the idea myself.

This is on the current 036QSII. The 036Pro does not have it.

Yes it sure is a real piece of work allright. I have never seen it advertised in Canada. Must be a USA saw only.

That thing would have to have a high failure rate. Engaging and disengaging every time you grab or let go of the handle?

John, I have never seen that either, but it sounds like that second brake Husky has put on the one model..cant remember which...lol..but we just saw it on that video I think at the service school..the brake was attached to the throttle hand...hey..did you guys find any interesting notes in your saws? You were in the Campbell River school?

No Dennis i never went to the service school. Ny Brother Don went to the one in Duncan. i do not usually do them as i am more sales and office, shipping, purchasing, otherwards i do everything else but fix saws. i will fix the odd chain or bar and little things.
But i manage the store more than anything.

What kind of notes do you mean ?

John, I was on my way over to Gods country.( Naniamo) and hit the Vancouver service school on the first..and the guys next to us put some notes in the 385's that they tore down...lol.something about the instructor saying that Campbell River guys suck...we..i mean them...lol...thought that was the next one...but ask your brother about the saw with the safety handle on the right arm...

I will ask him in the AM about the safety handle on the right side handle. You have me confused and curious now LOL
