Hello all, NO! I have not gotten my Stihl MS180 yet. I have to wait a few more weeks. Question for you Stihl case owners and Husky case owners. How good is the Stihl orange case??? I have looked at them and the plastic that is the "hinged" part seems weak, and looks like it would break or give out in a short time. Does anyone have this case, and if so how does it hold up for you?? I was in a store today that carried both Husky and Stihl and was comparing the cases. They had a 180 on the shelf and the person working there let me place the Stihl in the Stihl case and the Classic Husky case. The saw seemed to fit snugger in the Husky case and the Husky case seemed to have better hinges then the Stihl case. I have seen the power-box at a different store, but this place did not have a power box there for me to try the Stihl in. Do any of you have the Power box or the Husky classic case? I don't want to start a crazy thread on cases. I did a search on them before this post. I am only looking for those who have or had the Husky classic case, Husky power box, and the Stihl orange case to see what you like or dislike about them. Thanks, Cord Cutter....
PS Once I buy my new saw I will let you know. One bad thing about having to wait..... You start double thinking Stihl??? Echo??? because they have service close to me or Husky??? where you have to drive a bit for service. AAGGHH!!!!! Can't wait til I get one and be done!! Cord Cutter.

all three

I have had all three. I prefer the powerbox of all three. The classic husky my least favorite. I use the powerbox and the stihl case regularly. I take the bars off my saws so i like the powerbox because they stack better? The stihl case is just as strong as the powerbox IMO.

Have you noticed any problem with the thin plastic hinged part of the Stihl case??? How long have you had the cases?? Thanks for letting me know. Cord Cutter

when the male nubbins break off

My old Craftsman box the ears broke off many years ago, I stuck a welding rod into the hole and then milked it back into the female part with a knife blade.. Been working good for probably 10 years. I have not found a case for my 6400 dolmar yet. Might try a husky box. and see if they will fit with a 20 inch bar on

Stihl Case

One of my Stihl cases is VERY used, came with a used saw I purchased. It seems to be holding up just fine.

I have a new Stihl case and I like the way the bar guard locks into place. There isn't much room for too many other goodies, just tools, spare plugs, etc, but the case seems very rugged.

I also have an old Puolan BOX case. It has tons of room for my small Stihl 192T, as well a couple pairs of gloves, chaps, rags, heck my helmet might even fit in there if I tried. However, this case does feel/look like it could take a beating like the Stihl case.

My 3rd case is 24" tool box to carry the tools, chains, files and some extra bars.

Have not had any problems with the Stihl cases or heard of any.

<thread hijack>

I've been looking at cases lately too. I'm interested in how the Stihl black case compares to the husky Powerbox. I'm also wondering if a MS361 will fit in the Powerbox.

Husky power box

I've got a couple of these. They seem to be sturdy, but make sure the saw fits before you purchase as they aren't as wide as they look. My Shindaiwa 488's fit well in them. The Homelite 300 is a very tight fit and the Shindaiwa 757 with full wrap won't even come close to fitting. They are quite bulky but they are designed to hold some tools and xtra's. Was able to pick one of them up at the local Husky dealer for $25.00. I haven't hauled one around much in the truck so I don't really know how tippy they might be or how well they might hold up. The stacking ability is really a plus.

I doubt the 361 would fit. My 270 barely fits in the Powerbox. The height is fine it's the width that's the problem. The side door on the Powerbox hits the saw handle. I had to melt, very slightly the side of the case with a torch so the side door would close without binding.

the husky powerbox is great when transporting saws in car since you can fit all the tools and stuff in it...

I've had the Stihl case for about 5 years now no problems at all. Never heard of anyone else having problems either.

I had the orange hinged Stihl case for a while. It was a nice enough setup, with room for files, scrench, and space for a couple extra loops in the case. This was with an MS290, so there would be extra room in there with an MS180. I had no sense that the case was anything but thoroughly durable.

I've since given up on cases, since they take up too much space in my Jeep and because most of my saws don't fit in them anyway. Instead I store and transport my saws with the bars off.

I bought a couple of the Stihl cases lately. They both have a latch that just pushes and snaps under a catch and works fine. When buying the second one for the 346XPG I first grabbed one that had a different type of latch. I don't know if I can describe it well, but it was two pieces and kind of levered the cover down. It worked better than the other, but one of the latches was broke, and I could see it getting brittle in the cold and being a problem, so I went with the one piece latch. The only problem I have now is I have to sit on the other one to get it to close around the 441.

I have the classic stihl case in grey.(2 halves that is) The thin plastic hinge broke within a couple of years. Not Good. The scabbord is still in use and holds a scrench and file, which is nice.

After going to the Stihl site, I see the orange case they have pictured has the latches attached to the bottom half. Mine are attached to the top part. Maybe the latches I didn't like are a new style?

FWIW, I picked up a Powerbox at Lowes today. The MS361 fits perfectly, even with the Stihl scabbard.

husky powerbox

the powerbox wil hold saws up to and including the ms440 w/ 3/4 handle and standard outside dawg.

i think it would hold the 460 also (if its not longer from front to rear) but i have big dawgs on it and a scrench holder on the side of handle.

powerbox is the winner hands down for me
