Seriel number does not tally but you sure sound like you have an 050/051/075/076 saw.

Al.

It could be a 050

Oh gmax, that brings back a memory or two, I bought one new. They were one of stihl's better efforts, nicely balanced, well made, but with some fragile design flaws. The 075, to me was a disappointment, too heavy for the power it made. An SP 125 was not much heavier.

Randy, these are definitely not a sought after stihl, I bought it from ebay a couple of years ago, I only paid $70.. nobody else bid but it looked pretty ugly before I gave it makeover.
I'll buy any saw over 80cc for $70 if it's a runner

Didnt you put up a thread of the restoration? Lots of fresh paints pics,no. :msp_wink:

It looks just like the 056 posted by collector. Im trying to get enough info to get it back in service looking to put a bar around 25" on it and use it to fell the bigger stuff I cut for firewood thanks everybody! I forgot to mention that as of right now without a bar it seems to run excellent.

I am not sure what the saw is 045/056 could be a super or Mag. It has a rim drive it will say on it what size chain it pulls, I will guess 3/8 chian. That saw will pull just about any length bar you want, 3003 stihl mount. Go to one of the sponsors above like baileys and you can use there bar selector it will help you.

Bar selector from Bailey's

That has little to do with age - it sounds like you have a drum and rim drive sprocket, like WSC said. That's what modern pro saws have, and the best option!

so the other day I was cleaning the saw and decided to remove muffler to look at cylinder, now I know why it was free. It was scored and the piston was nicked on top edge so I removed the cylinder and the piston is 56mm so Im considering the options, part out, hone cylinder new piston and rings, buy a used piston cylinder combo. My problem with the last option is I also need a bar and chain so now Im over 200 bucks in it. I hate to part stuff out I would rather save it but is it worth it. funny thing is it sounded really strong but I suspect burried in wood It would have fell on its face.

Finding a jug and piston for that saw will be tough and high. You might try the trading thread it is in the sticky threads. You might also try the classifieds if you want to get rid of the saw.
