Hey guys a bought an old Stihl chainsaw this weekend but cannot read the size on the aluminum tag, but I did get the serial number, 113291917. I hope you guys can help me out, the saw is in great shape. I did see one tage that said 1979, that might help out identifying it.

The serial number is too old for dealer to id the saw though Stihl's system. Stihl might be able to do it though. The best way is a pic... post it and you'll know in minutes..

Agreed......a pic is priceless when it comes to saw identifiacation. More pics the better.

Is it orange and white? If so, I think you might have a Stihl there. :monkey:

Post some pics. We'll get ya goin'.

I am going to try and get some pics today, but from looking on Sleasy Bay I think I have an 031av, what are the horsepower rating on these all metal beast?

Just looked on that collectors corner and the clutch cover leads me to think its a 032av, are these pretty reliable saws and are they a points style ignition, if so can they be converted over?

They can. If it really is an 032, it's fairly straight forward. Do a search on AS as there is a lot written on this topic. If your points/condensor are working I'd leave it alone. They work just fine with points.

Hey Andy, I have a broken spark plug wire, can I just replace it or what? I am just disassembling/cleaning it as I go, I know nothing of a saw that is 2 years older than I am

Yes.. it just "unscrews" from the coil. Use the exact same size replacement wire - get it from your stihl dealer (easiest). Poke a hole up the end before you try to screw it in.
