I had a Stihl tach and it was junk, not sure if they all are. I had the EDT 7 before i got my Fast Tach

I bought my stihl tach used from my dealer. He was buying the "new" one for the auto saws.
Don't know if I paid to much but it works great and I can use it for four stroke also. Maybe check with your dealer to see if they want to unload for a new one.
