I went to the Stihl dealer seeking a Farmboss, didn't have any in stock and didn't carry that model.

Doesn't stock or carry a Farm Boss ! ! ! That's ridiculous ! He made have had a Stihl sign out front, but he was just a red neck trying to make a buck and probably doesn't know squat about saws. I see this kind all the time. Little run-down shop with 2 or 3 saws collecting dust on a shelf. The saws are just a side-line business for them. I'm not that saw savy, but when I know more than the supposed "dealer", it's time to politely walk. (Unless I can get a really good deal and don't expect any support.)

What the hell has red neck got to do with it???
Sounds more like a carpetbagging yankee to me!

I like them all and will use or buy whatever feels the best in my hands. It all comes down to preference not performance one pro saw is just as good as the other.

No Stihl dealer with self respect should stock any "farm boss", as long as the designation is used on over-heavy plastic cased clamshell saws! :biggrinbounce2:

My dealer has been one for 35+ years.
It's a little shack with 5 or 6 models.
None being a Fram Boss. His philosophy is that a saw is an investment. And being such, he dosent stock the 290 Farm Boss. He's a more a 361/362 kinda guy. He really knows a lot about Stihl saws. He will order what ya want. Any dealer would I imagine.
He says it's become a lot harder to be a dealer now a days. He was grandfathered in. You have to have this and that....but he's semi retired now, and really dosent give a damn. I guess thats part of the reason why no 290 Farm Boss. Im sure it being the #1 selling saw in the world Stihl would just about make him carry one, but him being what he is and what he has they pretty much just leave him alone.

That's like my Stihl dealer. He carries Huskies too. But only certain ones. He said when wal mart and TSC started carring Husky he let them sell the little stuff and he handles the rest. But he sells so many Stihls it really doesn't matter.

I hear ya mang, Stihl sells a tremendous amount of saws. They really do.
Stihl's marketing dept. is incredible.
It's a shame Husqvarna cant have one like that. However, there have been a few impressive commercial as of late. If more people could just get their hands on those Huskys especially the XP saws it would help Husqvarna. But ya gotta pound the market with advertising imo.
The Stihl Timbersports on ESPN is just another example of great marketing imo.
No doubt Stihl dosent make a great saw, but most of their success imho comes from their wonderful marketing! Hell, there everywhere! I just wish Husqvarna would start a program where a man could start a dealership at a very afffordable price. Currently, AFAIK, this can be done with Jonsered. It takes only 4k to start a dealership. Last I heard it was 40k for a Husqvarna dealership.
sorry for the rant. Just my crazy opinion.
I really dont know enough to make sn informed opinion. Just really an observation I reckon. Be easy on me lol..

I don't know if Stihl makes a great saw or not. I've never used anything else. But my 034AV has been working for me 26 years and been in the shop from necessity once. The biggest problem I see with any saw is the user. They think saws cost so much they don't or shouldn't need service. I bet they treat their trucks the same way.

WHY Stihl makes the BEST chain saw it's all in the FLIPPY CAP !

You just have to be smarter than the flippy cap

Get 'em both. Stihl for work/makin' money, Husky for racing and firewood cutting.
