What's the deal on this? Does anyone know how it works? I heard it's just coming out on trimmers in the near future. But is this the wave of the future for saws? I'm not sure I like the sound of it.

hybrid 4

Are you referring to the hybrid 4 stroke motor they have been showing? I saw one at an equipment show this fall and had it explained as a 2 stroke motor with a small amount of fuel being routed around the cylinder to the bottom and fed in as a lube which then is consumed as fuel with the next piston firing. They were taking preorders for the line trimmer, delivery ?. I tried the demo out and it seemed smooth, low vibration mounting was nice. They had a cut away motor to show at the booth but I can't find any info on the website about it yet.

Check out shindaiwas site. The have good diagram of how a hybrid 2/4 cycle works.
Basicaly the carb is hooked up to the crankcase via a reedvalve. There is a second reedvalve in the crank case itself that opens into a transfer port that feeds the intake valve.

4 mix

No reed valves in this one. Regular valve train, cam, pushrods, rocker arms, valves. Seems like a lot for a small engine, but the reviews are good so far. tell you next year if I see one by then. Oh yeah, school on the 21st, the 4 mix is the main subject.

WOW!!!!! a 4 stroke trimmer..cant wait untill they come out with a v-twin chainsaw!!!

The technology going into the internal combustion engine right now is amazing! Stihl with a small 4 stroke, volkswagon with a w-8 (this one is incredable!!) what will they think of next?-Matt
