So some punk decided he needed to have my 038 and helped himself to it while I ran into the store. I have a lot of saws but none with more meaning than my 038. It was my dads and runs better than the new saws by far. I will be pondering the what ifs' and I shouldve's but it wont bring it back. Not mad, so to say, but worried what my dad will say. If any of ya'll know of a 038 or 038 Magnum, built in Germany, for sale, I'd like a shot at it. From one tree man to another...help ease my pain. I know it wont replace the lost but it will calm my temper...and hopefully my pop's.

Sorry to hear. Keep your eyes on craigslist, pawn shops and local classifieds to see if the douche tries to sell it.

I use a dremel to put my name and number on all my stihls in the front of the oil tank near the dogs. I make sure that I get it marked deep enough that if someone tries to grind it of. they will most likely be getting into the case.

Thank you

Tree men are the only guys who could understand the loss of an early model 038...that's why I'm here, to vent! This saw has to be in the top 10 of all saws made by Stihl. I appreciate the advice and would really appreciate someone droppin me a line on a "new to me " 038 or better yet 038 Magnum II!

Sorry for your loss, though I must confess I owned one, and a couple 036 pros too and was underwhelmed by them all.

I've thought of engraving my stuff but I think it would affect me trying to sell them. On the flip side of the coin I've bought some engraved ex council and ex fire brigade stuff at auction which was auctioned and got it real cheap because of the engraving and it didn't fuss me, though people would always ask "where did you get that from?". Most government departments are required to replace their gear at certain intervals, sometimes it gets taken back by the stores that supply it to them as part trade for the new gear, reconned and resold, but if they do engrave it then it seems to mostly get auctioned.

Try posting in the lost and stolen forums also

Police report with serial number so they can get it into the system. It will show up somewhere.
