Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum (actually sort of a veteran over in the chain saw forum though), and I have a couple of questions regarding my wood stove and house:

1. I have a Dovre "Aurora" wood stove I bought used in the classified section. I can see where there WAS a fan attached to the stove... any sources on finding an OEM replacement? How often do you guy's change rope gaskets too?

2. I noticed my 1100sq/ft ranch wasn't as warm in the winter as it could be, and low and behold, when I looked in my attic, I had MAYBE 3-4 inches of fiberglass batt insulation (original... house built in 1954)! I have an insulation contractor going to blow in cellulose to get my R-value to around R-40... does anyone think I'll notice a difference this heating season?

Thanks Forum!! -Jon

I've been using the Aurora since 1993; it is an excellent stove. Dovre was bought out by Heatilator, now it is part of Alladin Hearth Products and Quadri-fire. You might want to call them and ask about the blower (I don't have one on my stove). Their # is 1-800-234-2508. There is a company in the U.K. that is still making stoves very similiar to Dovre; you can Google it and see what I mean. Perhaps they can also help. I only changed my gasket on it once in all of the years that I've had it; I try the "dollar bill" test on it and the gasket is still tight; flat, but tight so I let it go. The door is adjustable; take the right side of the stove off and you'll see adjustment bolts and screws. The only problems that I've had were the glass cracked on me last year, but the replacement from Quadri-fire was even better than the original Dovre glass, and the little "bushing" that the door latch closes on sometimes sticks and wants to wear out-I take the left side of the stove off and take off the bolt with that bushing and put some graphite in BETWEEN the bushing and the inner-sleeve; don't put any on the outside of the bushing or the door latch will want to keep opening! Wipe it off if you get any on there. I am very happy with the Aurora #700 and hope that you enjoy yours too-good luck with your search for a blower.
