JPS, have u ever had their pants that are supposed to be as safe as chaps?, have always wondered how the feel.

I have a Norway Maple that has "spikes" growing out of the leafs, tried looking it up, but my library is small (just fixed that thru ISA store) they are on the top of the leaf, maybe over 50 per leaf, thin, sturdy, dark brown to black. I think, with out any reference, that it is a parasite, looks like the ones ya see on discovery, popping out of bugs and plants, any idea! I did notice that the leafs that where curled under did not have very much as compared to the one in full sun.
If someone could walk me thru the process of pics, I would post it, have it right here on my desk, in a ziplock.

I can easily make some, I just have never had any luck posting on here, they always are jacked up, that is if you are talking about pics! Picasa? hmmm you could be talking about a program, if so, nope!

Thanks JPS, that's it, spindle gall. I just received my copy of "Diseases of Tree's and shrubs". Started looking for it, are the little spike's called Telia, and then the disease is Gall, is that right?

Jeff, what is picasa?

If i understand it right, telia are the fruiting bodies of fungal gall, think cedar/apple rust.

spindle and bladder gall are mite "houses", the "saliva" of the mite causes cellar deformation/elongation.

JPS, thanks, this book is some what confusing, ill get with it soon enough, so the galls are a by product of the mites, is there a way to tell what mite it is? or does the classification of gall determine that as-well?
Didn't mean to derail, sorry, still wondering about their pants tho

Jeff, don't laugh, im still running XP! My kids all have 7, even my laptop, but I don't want anybody messing with this one, but maybe I can get my boy to put it on here. I have alot of cool pics to show, so ima guna getz on its.

Just to perpetuate the distraction from the OP....You will not find spindle gall in the "Diseases of Trees and Shrubs" but you will in "Insects that Geed on Trees and Shrubs" (page 482 in the 2nd edition).

As to Picasa...don't get too hung up on that, there are plenty of simple (and free) programs that can help you get pictures posted on the web. The big thing is you need a place to host them (a lot of folks use photobucket - I just host mine on my own site, so I don't have experience to share with photobucket or other options).
