Got a call from a guy to ask if I had a chipper and whether I could chip some bamboo for him.
"Sure, where abouts do you live"
"I will bring the bamboo to you."
So some time later he turns up with a van load of various cuts of bamboo. Now some was cut and tied in such a way as it looked like it had been used in some ancient structure, and the bamboo was huge for these parts, about 5inches in diameter. But he wasnt forthcoming about what it was from and what it was for.
He also wanted to blow the chips into a bag (easier said than done). Then it turned out that the chip was to small for his liking so I back the chipper to near stalling and proceeded to chip it in big chunks carefully.
2 wool sacks worth later we are done. He asks how much I owe him and tells me to bill Weta. That explained the whole job.

Weta is Peter Jacksons production company(he did the lord of the rings), the new King Kong movie is being filmed here, apparently theres a scene where dinosaurs destoy the bamboo defences to some place, the chip is for visual effects. Not exactly a claim to fame but pretty cool all the same.
I just want to let you guys know that even though I am now in showbusiness I wont let it go to my head
:D :D

Forget the payment. Tell him you want to be listed in the credits.

Timber McPherson...Director of Woodchip Production

i did a similar one a while ago. the production company had fake asphalt made of cork that they wanted to be chipped down to gravel size. a real pain to feed it into the rollers. i backed the chipper into a side bay of the warehouse that they had the set in and chipped it against the wall. i've never worked in such a loud place. the room amplified the chipper so loud that it hurt my ears with good muffs on.

One of my brothers is into modeling, the other is into acting. I'm left out! But at least I have a steady job. :D

Wool sacks?

I picked up on that.Few on this site know what a wool sack is.I know, first hand,as I sheared sheep, when I was in high school. You can stomp 400 lbs. of wool in these sacks,I have no idea how much bamboo chips.

industry

I used to work in the biz. I was a set electrician and occasional grip. Money was good if you had enough work for 5 or6 days a week. Lots of pompus assessments. More techs than work. I worked on any given sunday(dallas,tx), The Alamo(construction alamo), Friday nite lights, B-movies and commercials. I wish I would have been a arborist 6years ago as I have wasted a lot of time in a industry that only leads to nowhere.

dont forget next time macdonalds tell you they're out of choc shake you can say "don't you know who i am?"
