I won't use any thing else other than timeserts.. tapping to 6mm is pretty big... but you do what you have to do.. You'll have to drill the muffler also. Best to drill it in place to assure centering. I like the 441 method - they put a stud in place of the bolt.

I have this same problem on my 353, from what my dealer says is that that have received service bulletin on the mater.
It was to put locktihgt in the hole and use a lock washer. While i was doing that i noticed that the anti-vibe mount was also striped clean there is nothing left.
I was think of finding a another mount spring with a bigger screw. or taking apart the top of the spring and putting a bigger screw in.
Has any one done this or has a better solution.

What is a timesert????

lawmart

play safe

Timesert kits worth it +1

You drill with the front cover on... But I'd use a timesert...

initial investment is worth it in the long run because it puts a steel alloy insert in the mag case,,,,, you will never have another problem there... it is a permanent fix,,,,, You will throw rocks at a hell - icoil if you ever use the timesert,,,,,Why would madsens sell them????? to the logging industry?????

Hmmm????????????

I had the same problem on my 032 about a month ago.
Lakeside recommended the time-sert and said Madsens sold them.
I live a half hour from Madsens and took a drive down there.
They had it fixed in a couple minutes for only a couple dollars.
That place is an awesome store, staffed with awesome people. :rockn:

I would check with repair shops in your area to see if they install time-serts if you are not willing to pay the $$$ for a kit.

I got a question for the stihl guys in the know. On a ms361, how do you get the inner muffler bolt out when the #27 torx head seems to be stripped?
Tricks of the trades? I was thinking easy out, but didnt know if it would reach through the muffler to the torx head.
I was going to work on removing the baffle out of the 361 muffler, even though it had already been modded alittle, I just wanted to take it alittle further to my likings.

Do you use te regular carbon steel inserts or the stainless ones?
Carbon steel is what I used and they work fine, The installing tool flares it out once you run it all the way in and it wont come back out,,,, just follow the instructions,,, Pretty simple actually and you get about 5 inserts with the kit,,, extra inserts ar about a buck apiece,,, They offer a kit that has several sizes and if I had it to do over I would have spent the extra bucks and got the bigger kit so i could fix multiple sizes and when I need another size other than what I have I'm going for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:blob2: :blob2: :blob2:

UPDATE:

Gee, don't I feel dumb. Threads were A-OK, but my old case was 5mm and the new case, 6mm. So it's no wonder my 5mm bolts from the old case weren't grabbing worth a darn in the new one. Grabbed a couple new 6mm bolts from the saw shop on Saturday and I'm good to go.
