I was grinding stumps with my new-to me 8018 when the wheel stopped instantly and the polybelt stripped as a result. The bearings for the cutter wheel had no threaded rods on the front of the bearings,(previous owner) I never caught it. The bearing opposite the belt moved forward and the teeth caught the side of the boom. Instant stoppage. Where is the best price on a replacement? Its a Gates 14 MGT 2660 68? Is Carlton competive with belt distributers? Another question I have are these deutz' all cold blooded in stump grinders? Mine runs well but is hard starting. I have the same engine in a bobcat and it starts great. Thanks

Motion Industries beat Carlton's price for the poly belt on my 7018 by a couple hundred dollars. Think it was $450 at M.I. vs just over $600 at Carlton.

Be sure to replace the pulleys also as they are worn to the old belt.

Sucks that happened to you literally days after you bought the thing.

Mine is very cold blooded first crank in the mornings. Well, no so much now that it's like 90° by 10am. lol

Thanks, I'll check them out. It does suck but it is a used piece of equipment. It is a beast when it's working. I was doing a job with about 80 oak stumps when it broke. Fortunatly I still have the tow behind and should be able to finish up with it. I'm going to use the Alpine on a backyard stump that I was going to use the 8018 on as well.

Too bad for a break down already. My duetz on my 8018 is a ##### to start when its cold also. Use the glow plugs when its cold. My Rayco super 50 with duetz 66hp starts much easier but the 8018 79 hp does not like to start when cold. Moe there is one maintenance thing to do with your 8018 and that is below the turn table there are two cylinders on each side which controls left and right swing. Keep the dirt and debris from building up around the cylinders. I power wash the dirt out of that area every couple of weeks.

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye on that. The swing cylenders have some slop in the pins/ bushings. It's going to be part of the list of things to do on it this winter. I have to crank on mine a bit even when warm. I'm wondering if there is a fuel check valve that could bad and leaking back down when it's not running? I've only had it a week and will have about $1000 in parts,(poly chain, starter and ignition switch) That said, I really missed it today when I went back to my tow behind.

Yes, the best deal I got was from a local electric motor supply company,(beat motion industries by $45) it was $539. I asked about replacing the pulleys. They looked at how the old belt was wearing and they said there is no need. That was good news. They told me that unless the pulleys are very visibally worn that they don't replace them and the belt wear doesn't seem to suffer. They service poly chain belts on a lot of industrial equipment. Did you get your transmission rebuilt?

Yep, back in business!!

I had a close call with my poly belt 2 days ago. It was making a weird sound while grinding enough so that I hit the e-stop and killed it. The teeth were scrapping the side of the housing. The bolt that holds the bearing tight had bent over and was no longer holding it tight. Very close call as the edge of the belt had already started fraying ever so slightly from rubbing against the edge of the pulley.

Cost me $12 in some new bolts and nuts and about 4 hours of lost time.

good catch, I just rechecked my belt tension and alignment after a few jobs. After having a good belt destroyed in seconds, I will be eyeballing the bearings and stoppers every time I grease. Did you get the upgraded transmission?

If you have a SuperDuty Ford with the 4R100 tranny and have problems, you need to call Brian. He knows his stuff.

What did that slush box cost you? I heard he was the best in the business with auto's for fords

Did you drive out to get that or ship it?

$4,300 plus tax. $160 for 20 quarts of Mobile synthetic, $240 for a new tranny cooler out of a 6.0l diesel, $700 for my tranny guy to R&R the tranny, and $170 for a Scan Gauge II so I don't overheat this one. Plus a couple of tanks of gas to get there and a $60 hotel room. :)

I drove to Lead Hill AR with the tranny in the back of my Durango which has had the tranny upgraded from Martin Saine out of CA.

He said he could ship it to me for $250 but I wanted to watch him build it. Took him all of 4 hours.
