Took down a large oak (36" dbh). When I got to the main trunk I hit metal. Moved down the trunk, hit metal again. Moved down the trunk and hit metal again. There were lights in the tree, which I was able to work around. Apparently the previous owner ran conduit up the tree and the tree grew around the conduit. I ended up leaving the trunk. I had no way to cut it.

couple years back backyard BoxElder, all of 48"at about 4' up. that dang thing had everything except the kitchen sink in it including a "T" post right up the middle, wiped out 6 chains on that one.

I once ripped a nail completely in half the long way when bucking. Have found much more through burning than with the saw thankfully. Found a bunch of pieces of square iron and several hoops of metal (think the ones that you hit a croquet ball through) in a big old silver maple I burned. I don't know how we didn't hit something as there was so much in that tree.

Only barbwire and some fence staples. A previous owner was Amish; they likely had a horse pen in the woods.

Strangest I've seen was back in the '80s when I was married. The BIL was hired to take down a dying, ancient oak that was growing at the edge of a cemetery. A few feet from the ground he hit metal. They had to hire a dozer and operator for the day to uproot what was left of the main stem and load it on the stake body. Couldn't cut through it.

They burned the stump later. Turned out to be part of a wrought iron fence. The tree had grown around it and completely covered it.

Big old oak tree contained the parts of a swing farm gate that are lag bolt with a big O on the end. It was about 8 inches in side the wood. Also found plow point in a crotch we split from a maple out of a fence line. Plenty of rocks stopped doing those fence line trees because of them.

:D Al

year ago,, guy some some trees from the town...told him I don't like em. hit one 3/8 lag screw dead on,, and just cleaned the side of another....told him I wont do it again.....

ive hit fence wire lots of times, some staples etc.

but the worst was 2 t posts inside a 30" diameter ash.
notched and back cut completed then noticed sparks, pulled saw back and you could barely see the metal.
60' tree held fast to the posts and wouldn't fall. had to string a line and pull it.
that will get you excited having a tree only held by the hinge and having to work around it.:chainsaw:

was watching a youtube video they wer amazed to find ants,, I tell u if u never seen ants in wood u havent been cutting long

Two weeks ago, I was splitting the final round (stump end) from a dead Red Oak that had been down of about a year.
When the round popped in half, an ant nest about the size of five gallon bucket fell apart.
Those little phuckers went everywhere.
I spent about a half hour getting ants off of me, the splitter and everything close.
