hey mate:the way i handle stumps is to dig around the remainging trunk (which will be about 2" off the ground after i finish cutting most of the trunk)go deep about 6"-10".as i'm digging around i make sure that one side i go out enough so i can turn my chian saw on its side.i fetch a broom and clean off the part i just un-covered.i then cut away.the whole process takes from 15-30 minutes according to it's size.
the way i look at it is the cost of a stump-grinder,another thing to carry around,and more maintenance-----------what i've been do for 20 years seems to work best for me.

I've tried that, but I'm alergic to digging. Too mcu work for me.

He's done a cost benefit on saw versus stumper. Not a bad thing.
