Hey guys! Ive come across a job where i need to do about 16 stumps that on avergane are at least 30 cm dbh. The issue that i have is that the trees were on an old retainins wall. The butt flare starts at 4 feet above the parking lot. Behind the stumps there is maybe a foot to walk behind and then a fence. Any ideas would be appreciated. Heres a sketch in hopes you can help!

I would say roll the biggest machine you can off the back of the truck and get to work or lift one up there with a loader.

go to home depot and rent the walk behind grinder and just lift it up me and one of my helpers put it in the back of my pickup by hand. its not to heavy. thats what i do when i need a small stumper just rent one from home depot.

Sounds like the perfect job for an Alpine Magnum grinder.

did you ever use one of thies? to me i just dont see how it would work good because im use to a big grinder. i used a vermeer sc252 once and thought it was slow as hell so whenever i saw this i was like no way it would work good. but i may be wrong thats why im asking. i had a vermeer sc352 for about a week and sold that because it didnt have enough cahunas for me. but on alot of jobs we are taking out more than 10 stumps. the last job we did i took out 21 and it took me a little over an hour. i have a bobcat highflow model grinder and i took out to stumps a few days ago over 3 feet across they took about 12-15 min a piece.

Trust me, I know about big grinders and big stumps.

I own a Carlton 7015 TRX.

Here's one I did in Houston after Ike:

I just did a red oak stump last week that was 82" across.

That said, the Alpine has its place and the mentioned job is perfect for it. Hard to get to stumps that are only 11 inches in diameter? Perfect.

I owned an Alpine for a while. Already had the Carlton and didn't have enough business for the Alpine to justify keeping it. Probably should have though.

I will NEVER rent a walk behind grinder again.

I'd go with a bulldozer and some chain, tear that guy right out of there. Make a mess of the the parking lot a little.

Problem with that is it'll make a mess of the retaining wall as well. What kind of grinder do you normally use? If I still had my old International chip truck I would put my grinder in the bed and back up to the wall and grind from the back of the truck. I have a Carlton 4400-4.

Pay a flatbed towtruck driver to back up to the wall and grind with your grinder then.
