i got this old onan 24 that came out of my small olathe 182 chipper... i re-powered the chipper with a kohler command pro and i want to fix up the old onan 24 as a backup engine... the engine starts and runs... it sounds good... nothing is knocking... it doesnt smoke... but here is the problem... sometimes when it is running it will suddenly power down to an idle even though the throttle is up to full speed...moving the throttle up and down has no effect... sometimes it dies and wont start up... this problem is intermittent... i cant find the cause... i dont want to completely tear down the engine if i dont have to... where should look to attack this problem?
thank you for ANY replies...

i would try a carb rebuild first and while your at it you might as well replace all of the fuel lines and filters and maybe clean out the fuel tank and make sure it has fresh fuel and making sure it has a good spark wont hurt. that is what i would start with
