OKay while contimplating the universe and grinder teeth, and the hobarts funnies that were the flail tanks that cleared mines in the D day landing, I was wondered something.

We know stumper teeth love eating wood, but are not fussed on dirt (and really hate rocks). SOOOOOOO why dont stumpers have heavy duty brush bristles attached to them that extend beyond the teeth range (ie are longer), that way you could clear the dirt and uncover any bad little things before the teeth hit them? And being bristles when the teeth are working they would just stay out of the way.

Is it insane?

Not a bad idea, theres alot of areas to be improved on in grinding.

I was thinking you could have lengths of chain like a flail tank has, they would be in between the teeth but in such a way that they wont make contact with them but with the centrifical force of the wheel they would contact the wood or dirt before the teeth.

Maybe Lenths of steel cable would be better, say 13mm/ half inch diameter but frayed at the end so they would be like a wire brush end. Cheap to make and replace. But more dangerous than plastic or nylon.

I guess if your teeth were 10cm long from the outer diameter of the wheel, then the "brushes" would need to be about 13cm long. If using steel cable you could cut a piece and fray it at both ends. Then use a bolt with large washers to secure them to the wheel (once you have drilled holes for the extra "teeth" of course)

Or they could be secured to the back of each tooth.

If you strike a metal stake in a stump, a good way togrind is to have oxy cutter on site. It will burn it deeper than angle grinder. grind down to stake and then burn deeper again.

That sounds like a great idea. I'm also thinking about getting a metal detector and using it when I bid the stump and just charge more for any stump that has metal in it.

I'd like to bash the idiot that used it as a stake in the first place! LOL :chainsaw:
