I had a talk with a client today about his trees and feel like I have accomplished something with him. He used to say "Don't you dare cut down any of my trees." His wife was the exact opposite... "Cut down everything." Over time we have cut down a number of trees in order to open up their pool, house, and removed some dangerous trees from the property. I was over there today to help with another tree removal, and the guy finally said to me that, "If it's dangerous, I want it gone." Yet we also talked this afternoon about installing a cable, and planting, and other such things. So, in summation I feel that I have accomplished something by turning a tree hugger into somebody who likes their trees and wants to keep them alive, but also appreciates when they have outlived their usefulness.

Has the wife moderated too, or is she still arborphobic?

The guy's wife has kind of mellowed out. Now she is more towards "what should stay?" However she still wants anything dangerous gone.

Right on!!! Sometimes its hard to stick to your guns and keep telling the home owner what is right and wrong instead of giving in to their logic.
